There's a random fabric store near where I live called Fabric Place Basement. I visited it when I first moved to the neighborhood. It's a great fabric store, especially if you're a quilter or have a lot of upholstery or drapery fabric needs. None of these things apply to me, but I still love a fabric store, so I decided that a trip to Fabric Place Basement would be my thing yesterday. Since I'm not traveling during my vacation, I do at least one thing each day where I get out of the house and have a little "adventure." Yesterday, it was Target and Fabric Place Basement. Today, I get to meet the dog my parents recently adopted and help my mom organize her closet. I live a very exciting life.
Anyway, Fabric Place Basement is owned by a man named Peter Isaacson. His grandmother owned a shop called Fabric Place when he was a child, so he grew up in the fabric store world, eventually becoming a fabric sales rep. When his family decided to sell the original shop, he decided to open his own. Fabric Place Basement has two locations; the other is in Massachusetts. I looked this up yesterday because when I walked it, the store reminded me of running errands with my paternal grandma when I was little. When I was a kid, we'd spend part of our summer in Detroit. At least once per trip, I would end up spending the day with my grandma and we'd run errands. She was not a mean grandma, but I wouldn't characterize her as a squishy, soft grandma (if that makes sense). She always reminded me not to touch things and to be polite when we were out and about, particularly when we'd go to Dearborn Sausage, one of the two places where my family bought kielbasa and other Polish food. I never did anything bad in this store, but the Polish ladies who ran it would still occasionally look at me like I stole something and yell at me in Polish. My Polish is limited to food words and "Happy Birthday" (but only if others are singing), so I have no idea what they were saying. My grandma seemed to know what they were saying, and I never got in actual trouble, so I think she knew I wasn't doing anything but standing there. Anyway, for whatever reason, Fabric Place Basement reminds me of that specific memory except a fabric store. Memories are weird.
I bought a large bag of buttons and some fabric quarters. I spent yesterday afternoon sorting the buttons, and now have a very impressive set of buttons that scream "a member of the cast of Dynasty probably wore a jacket with these buttons and very large shoulder pads." There were also some animal shaped buttons and some cool shapes and textures. I have an idea for two other button pieces, but wanted to try this one out today. It gives me the opportunity to practice my lazy daisy stitch and use buttons. Fantastic.

They have a very 1970s wall clock vibe. |

I could either get the large bag or small bag. I opted for the large bag. |

Can you guess what I may make with these buttons? |

There are more ducks - I have to do something with the ducks. |
