I've exceeded my goal of learning new stitches during this project. I added four new stitches this month, bringing my new stitch total to nine. Today's addition to the stitch family was a stumble upon stitch; I was looking at images of coral online, and the coral stitch popped up in my search results. Obviously, I had to take a look, and I'm not disappointed I did.
The coral stitch, or coral knot, is a member of the knotted stitch family, so it's the French knot's cousin. According to a few blogs I read, it's one of the oldest knotted stitches, and shows up around the world in embroidery and crewel work. It's often mistaken for the scroll stitch, one of the other stitches I learned this month, and I can sort of see why. The coral stitch is easier to do, and I like the idea of using it as a filling stitch as one of the online tutorials suggested. It also reminds me of the couching stitch, but with knots. It reminds me of Ursula from The Little Mermaid.
I love learning new stitches!
