I won't be posting a blog tomorrow. Tomorrow is primary election day here in Virginia, and since I'm an election officer for my county, I'll be working at the polls all day tomorrow. Instead, I did a panel piece today that includes both today and tomorrow's pieces.
As I've said before, I'm not a craftivist, but I care deeply about a lot of issues and voting is one of those issues. Voting is legitimately one of my favorite things. Local and state elections are as important as national elections, and in some ways more important since they can have a direct impact on national elections in ways you may not see for decades. Look at what's happening today, and understand that it didn't simply happen because of who won in 2016. Voter suppression is real, and those laws are enacted at the state level. Your vote matters - trust me on this.
This is my second election as an election officer. I've done a lot of other election and campaign related roles over the years, but decided last year being an election officer is the best way I can make sure people in my community can vote in safe way.
Anyway, if you have a local or state primary election this year or in 2022, make sure you do your research and get out and vote. We're at a crucial place in history, as I wrote this time last year, and it's important for every eligible voter to vote.
Voting is our superpower. Maybe that sounds corny and silly, but I don't know of anything more powerful than your vote. If your vote didn't matter, people wouldn't work so hard to try to keep you from voting. Get out and vote!
