Weird...

I started watching the Amazon series, Lore, over the weekend. Based on the long-running podcast of the same name, creator Aaron Mahnke explores the intersection of fact and folklore in history. Episodes include the origin of the vampire legend, hauntings, and a gruesome episode involving Irish folktales about changelings (this one was hard to watch). I've never listened to the podcast, but have heard nothing but good things about it. I generally like horror and the macabre, so I may have to start listening despite my inability to focus on podcasts for very long. There are two seasons on Amazon Prime; I have two episodes left of season one. Apparently, the last episode of season one involves a haunted doll, so it may be a little while before I finish.

I also attended a baseball game this weekend. The two things aren't really connected, but my brain is a weird place and I tend to make connections to things that might not normally be connected. This was my first large event since the CDC issued new guidelines around masks for those who are fully vaccinated. Basically, we're all on the honor system now, and well, I have issues with this given how people have behaved over the course of the last year and a half. I don't think I'm alone in being apprehensive of others when it comes to being truthful about their vaccination status. This is why we can't have nice things. I won't be fully vaccinated until this coming weekend, so I was wearing my mask like the good citizen I am. And it felt weird. I'm sure no one was actually concerned about me and my brother, but it didn't feel that way. I wanted to shout, "My vaccine isn't fully baked yet! That's why I'm wearing a mask. I promise I'm not a monster!" I did not do this. It would have been even weirder and I probably would have been ejected from the game.

Anyway, I was telling my brother about Lore during the game since he also likes stuff horror and unusual history, and I thought he might want to check out the series. Which, of course, made me think of COVID and the new frontier of re-entering the larger world. Is Aaron Mahnke going to have to write a COVID/pandemic episode (maybe he already has) about mask paranoia and people being liars about being vaccinated or our collective distrust of others in this new sort post-pandemic world?

It was weird. Not bad weird, just weird. And I've been thinking about it since Saturday since I'm an overthinker and that's what I do. So today is weird. Tomorrow probably won't be as weird, and it'll get easier as time goes on, but today is weird.

This also gave me an excuse to try a whipped back stitch with DMC variegated thread. It's a fun effect that I'll have to try again with more planning.
