Today is an important date here at An Embroidery a Day. Today is the day I created my 125th piece, exactly the amount of embroidery pieces I made total in 2020. I'm excited I made to this important point in the project; I haven't missed a day yet and there have only been a few days where I didn't think I'd finish or didn't have an idea of what to do. Working in small scale is fun, but also incredibly challenging. I've had to rethink the way I use thread, shifting from using 4 or 6 strands to 2 or 3. It works better and I'm able to control the stitches more with less strands. Small pieces take just as long, if not longer than larger pieces (depending on what the design is). I've gotten better at figuring out how long it'll take me to finish something, especially on the weekdays when I don't have an abundance of free time. My two favorite things so far: working on my drawing skills and creating an aesthetic that is whimsical, fun, and a nice balance between realistic and abstract. Who knew I could do that?
To pay tribute to today's milestone, I also have to pay tribute to today, April 25, the perfect date. If you've seen the movie Miss Congeniality, you know what I'm talking about. If not, here's a quick clip for reference.
I love this movie. Candice Bergen, Sandra Bullock, and Heather Burns are fantastic, and I don't want to punch Benjamin Bratt too often. It's fun and a little feminist (in the same vein as Legally Blonde). Burns as Cheryl Fraser is a treat; she deserved her own spin-off movies where we follow her reign as Miss United States and she gets to date the FBI agent from the second movie. I would watch those movies in a heartbeat. This scene is one of my favorites. Fraser is asked one of those terrible questions pageant contestants are asked: Describe your perfect date. Instead of talking about a date with a person, she describes the perfect date from a weather perspective:
April 25th - because it's not too hot, not too cold. All you need is a light jacket!
It is really the perfect date, unless you live anywhere April snow occurs (this is why I can't move to Michigan, Colorado, or Minnesota). It's shaping up to be the perfect date here in Virginia today, although it's a little overcast, but not too hot, not too cold. I hope you enjoy the perfect date. Maybe watch Miss Congeniality if you have a chance (it's available to rent on Prime, YouTube, and AppleTV).
