Play ball!

Today is Opening Day! For all you baseball fans out there, I hope you got to watch some baseball and your team's opening day wasn't canceled due to COVID or rain or I don't know, raccoons charging the field (this didn't happen, but it's 2021 so it could happen).

I miss going to baseball games. I've never been a fan of watching baseball, or really any sport, on television. The whole vibe of a live event is totally lost on tv, and announcers suck (almost always). People watching is one of my favorite things about live sports, and you really can't people watch during a televised game. I've been going to games since I was very little; I didn't appreciate the experience when I was younger, but I do now. My brother is a huge baseball fan, so I go to a lot of games with him. If you want to learn how to keep score, random stats, and even more random facts about players and baseball history, my brother is your dude. He has no judgement when it comes to baseball park food (why yes, we'll have some donuts with our beer) and is perfectly fine with splitting nachos with me (not the fancy kind, the kind with the canned cheese).

Anyway, we're hoping to go to some games this season. My brother is a Nats season ticket holder (last season was supposed to be his first season as such), so I guess we'll get to go to a few games with approximately five other people in the stadium (I'm exaggerating slightly) if games actually happen. I'm nervous about going to any public event, but I'll get over it.

If you can't watch baseball on tv (for whatever reason), I highly recommend watching one of my favorite baseball movies, Major League. This is one of those movies I watched way before it was age-appropriate for me to do so. I love it, and I watch it every spring. Since I'm in a more documentary mood today, I may watch The Battered Bastards of Baseball on Netflix to celebrate the start of the season.

Enjoy Opening Day!
