Morgenmuffel (German):
Someone who is bad in the morning and does not like to wake up early; a morning grouch; not a morning person

I try to learn at least one new thing every day. It can be anything: a random fact, a new word, a new stitch, a new way to do something. I'm a learner, and I crave new information on a daily basis. This month, I learned two German words that I'm very excited about. Today's word is morgenmuffel. I'll share the other word in a future post.
The word came up in a Facebook post (not sure if it was a friend who posted it or if it was in a cat group I follow). I took a screenshot of the meme to consider at another time. That's what I do when I see quotes or fun sayings or images that I may want to use as a reference for a piece. I have an entire album on my phone dedicated to these items. I came back to the morgenmuffel meme today because I had a realization this morning and this word was part of it:
My cat is a morgenmuffel.
Keely is the biggest morning grump I've ever encountered. For a cat who knows he gets fed in the morning, you'd think he'd be super jazzed up when 5 am rolls around and it's time for food. But no, he looks at me like I insulted his cat ancestors because I moved. Then, once I'm out of bed, he'll lay on the bed and stare at me for 2-3 minutes with a look that says, "You expect me to get up? Can't you just bring me my food?" Then he decides to get up and follows me to the kitchen. On a weekday, I feed him and workout before getting ready for work. He eats and waits for me to finish working out so he can try to look cute and get a treat when I'm done (he always gets a treat). On weekends, I go back to bed for a few more hours, and he'll usually fall asleep on me, and then get annoyed when it's time for me to get up for real. At least he's consistent.
This morning was a typical Sunday morning. We got up at 5 for his breakfast, he looked at me like it was torture, he ate most of his food, and then returned to bed where he jumped on my vaccine arm (the sore arm) before settling on my other arm and going back to sleep. When my alarm went off again at 7:30, he meowed, stretched, and nipped at my hand. He moved in such as way that it was hard for me to get up because my left arm is sore. We hung out this way, with him making a grumpy face at me, for another 15 minutes. Then he decided he was done, and I could get out of bed. This is when I decided my cat is a morgenmuffel.
