Whimsy

I wore a sweater with cats on it today. For those of you who know me, this isn't a weird thing. I have an entire collection of whimsical sweaters and shirts to go along with my whimsical socks. What's weird about today is that I thought about wearing this sweater for a long time before I put it on. I'm on video a lot at work, and while there's no issue with me wearing this sweater at work (remote or if I were in the office), I paused a bit longer when getting dressed. I don't know why, but I did.

Here's the sweater for reference:

I'm pretty certain no one I was on video with today realized there were cats on my sweater. If they did, they probably didn't care, so I'm not sure why I was so concerned about it. Maybe this is my version of the pandemic wall: I overthink stuff no one cares about.

I've been thinking about my core values as an artist (this is part of a class I'm taking), and humor and whimsy are two things that come to mind when I think about my work...and my clothes...and the way I decorate my house. I tell people all the time, "whimsy goes with everything," and I really do mean it. Yes, I occasionally do serious pieces like my "Screams" or some of the pieces I've done so far for this project, but most of what I do is whimsical. Whimsy isn't a value, but it's I gravitate toward more often than not. We have a lot of things to manage in the world; sometimes wearing a dinosaur shirt makes things easier. (I also have work appropriate dinosaur shirt.)

I hope you find a little whimsy in your day. If you haven't yet, enjoy this photo of my in a cat sweater being hugged by my cat.
