If you never watched the gem that is Portlandia, you completely missed out on putting birds on things. When I visited Portland for the first time (for work), the walls in the office restroom had birds on them. To this day, I don't know if that was just a cute touch or Portland being Portland.
There are a lot of trees in my neighborhood, so I have a lot of bird guests all the time. Keely both loves and hates this about our house; there's an incredibly aggressive blue jay who lives in one of the redbud trees (blue jays are jerks - they can mimic other birds calls to create chaos in the bird world). He likes to torment Keely from outside because he knows Keely can't get him. Such a jerk bird. There are dozens of low-key/normal birds who flit from tree to tree and live their bird lives. Spring is definitely here.
In addition to my own birds, my dad is the owner of one of the best stops on the hobo bird trail in his part of Northern Virginia. Since writing that post in 2014, I believe my dad has added an additional bird feeder to the backyard and has dedicated peanut day on Sundays (the squirrels are also fans). My parents backyard is a little bird Wild Kingdom. They also have a jerky blue jay who likes to mimic the call of a hawk (there are two hawks who occasionally stop by), so that he can have free reign over the peanuts. Blue jays, man.
I have never drawn a bird before, so I went with a more doodle/cartoon style bird than a realistic one. I'm going to work on drawing a more realistic bird for later in the year (July) for a piece for someone specific, but for today, enjoy this rotund blue bird. I think he's adorable.
