Lenscrafters Manager: Wait, you didn't try any other pairs? You just found the glasses you wanted?!?
Me: I have a gift. I've been wearing glasses since the 4th grade. I know what I like and what works for me. More importantly, I know my price point.
Lenscrafters Manager: I don't know what to say.
Lenscrafters Employee (who is helping me): Look. (Shows LCM the picture for the eye distance measurement.) She's right; she knows what she's doing.
Lenscrafters Manager: Wow. This never happens.
Me: You're welcome.
SCENE.
This happened earlier today. I had to go in for an eye exam, hoping that this would not be the year of me needing progressive lenses (still single vision - I'm still young, or at least my eyes are). I decided to buy new glasses, so I visited the Lenscrafters next door to my eye doctor. Lenscrafters is a hit or miss for me, but today I zeroed in on a pair of glasses and sunglasses in under 10 minutes. This is a personal record. The sunglasses were 60% off, so I paid less for two pairs of glasses than I did for my last pair of regular glasses. Amazing. They'll be ready in a week (they never have my prescription in stock).
I've worn glasses since the 4th grade. I hated wearing glasses back then. Frames were bulky and ugly, and no one would be caught dead wearing glasses for fun/fashion. I got made fun of a lot, and there was a period where I refused to wear them. Eventually, I realized being able to see clearly was more important, but it was still a struggle. As I got older, glasses got better, and are now super fashionable. There are people who wear fake glasses to be cool. I don't get them, but whatever. I'm not meant to understand everything in the world.
People always ask me why I don't wear contacts (they make my eyes burn) or why I don't get Lasik (I'm not a good candidate and I don't like lasers coming at my eyes). But the actual truth is I love my glasses. I look good in glasses. Scratch that - I look fabulous in glasses.
