Everyone has that one friend...

...who says "COWS!" anytime they see a cow (or a horse or a goat) when on a road trip. My entire family is that friend. When we go on trips together and there are cows, some variation of the same conversation will happen:

My dad (or my mom): Cows!
Whichever one didn't say Cows: Are they laying down? You know if they laying down it's probably going to rain.
Me: You know, cows have best friends. They also get upset when they're separated from their cow friend
My brother: Hey, there's a goat!
My dad: (Decides which one of us is going to buy a farm) So Erin, are you buying that farm today? Look at all that land.
Me and my brother: Audibly roll our eyes.

SCENE

My brother's birthday is on Monday. (Yes, I'm doing a piece for him. No, I don't know what it will be.) We're going to a winery today to celebrate a little early since Monday birthdays are the worst (only Wednesday birthdays are more terrible). Our parents aren't coming with us (dad is getting his first vaccine dose today, mom doesn't drink), so I don't know if this conversation will happen. The winery is about an hour and half from where we live and it's all farmland and ranches once we get out of the "city." My brother is never the one to say "COWS!" first, so we may skip this conversation entirely. I wanted to honor the cows with today's simple piece.

Remember: it is always acceptable to alert the people you're with when there are cows, horses, goats, llamas, alpacas, or any other animal while on a road trip. Why wouldn't you want to share that joy with everyone?

He let me do some of today's piece while sitting on my lap. He never allows that. I also got the feeling he was judging me, but he's a cat so that's his job.
