I first encountered the meme that inspired today's piece on the Facebook page, Nerds with Vaginas. Eventually, NWV also posted it to Instagram, and I've seen versions of it posted on various platforms since. It's one of my favorite memes of all time. Here's the screenshot of the NWV post:
Of course, I didn't save any of the comments, so I'm not sure who this is attributed to. If you know, please share in the comments.
Anyway, I love this meme. I laugh and nod every time I see it; it speaks to me. I've been considered the weird girl a lot in my life. I have a lot of varied interests, and am incredibly enthusiastic about them. This often means that people are charmed by me, but also there's that moment when I'm too enthusiastic or weird for their taste. People think it's cute, but the second I start talking about the history of embroidery or specific baking techniques, or share my love of reading biographies of former cult members or true crime documentaries, people get uncomfortable.
I've been planning this piece since December 12, 2020. I was working on the framework for my project, and was transcribing quotes and funny sayings into my sketchbook. This meme was one of the items I had on my list to include as a piece at some point. I sent the sketch to a few of my friends that day. They thought it was hilarious. My figure drawing needs more work, but it'll do for our purposes today. I decided in January that this would be my Valentine's Day post. Keely and I plan to spend a portion of our day sitting on the couch, watching reruns of CSI. Or we'll watch The Ripper on Netflix. We don't have matching onesies (Keely doesn't wear clothes), but it's close enough.
Happy Valentine's Day from a weird girl and her cat!

Had to use my magnifier and light today. I was sitting on my couch so it was a hassle to use both the stand and the magnifier. I'm going to try it again, but sit at a table. |
