Let's smash things

I don't normally watch Saturday Night Live. I haven't regularly watched the show since Amy Poehler left the cast. When I do watch it, it's because the host or musical guest is someone I enjoy. Since I'm also ancient and can't stay up as late as I used to, I watch it on Sunday mornings while drinking coffee.

I watched last week's episode because Dan Levy was hosting. I LOVE Dan Levy and Schitt's Creek and Dan's eyebrows. His sparkly suit was amazing. He deserved way better sketches than he was given, but he was a joy to watch. I knew of Phoebe Bridgers before the show, but hadn't really listened to her music. I enjoyed her very much, and loved the fact that she decided to smash her guitar at the end of her second song. Musical guests are notorious for doing wild things during SNL sets; it's part of the culture of being on the show.

The fake outrage directed at Bridgers has been annoying me since Sunday. People need more hobbies. Dudes have been smashing guitars for decades and no one says anything except "cool." I loved her comment on Instagram about setting the next one on fire. So today's piece is inspired by Phoebe Bridgers and her guitar smashing. I did use a pattern from Sublime Stitching for the guitar outline; I couldn't make my guitar look like anything resembling a guitar. The broken pieces are my spin on the pattern. The quote is from Bridgers's Instagram post.

We all want to smash things sometimes. I felt really good after watching Phoebe smash her guitar.

Couple of iterations to get to the final design. I'll use the amp design for something else.

Details:
Stitches: back and straight stitches, French knots
Thread palette: DMC 310, 415, C666, C318 (3 strands)
Inspiration: Phoebe Bridgers's SNL performace and her IG post
Pattern citation: The guitar is from the book Embroidered Effects (I think). It's definitely a Sublime Stitching pattern, but I don't know if it came from this book or Sublime Stitching. Both books are available on the Sublime Stitching site, but there's a waitlist. The guitar pattern isn't broken in pieces; I modified the pattern to fit my needs and because I can't draw guitars...yet.
