It's the day of the show, y'all

Happy Groundhog Day! I hope your day has been terrific, and you didn't ever have to drive angry. Groundhog Day is my favorite made up holiday. I send Groundhog Day cards, and normally I'd make groundhog shaped cookies, but I didn't this year since I don't need to eat dozens of cookies by myself. My mom sent me a festive mask this year:

Depending on which groundhog you follow, we're either in for another six weeks of winter (Punxsutawney Phil) or an early spring (Beauregard). My bet is on Phil, mostly because we're supposed to have snow for the next several days, and well, I trust Phil.

Today also marked the kickoff of a program I manage at work. I always say "it's the day of the show, y'all" whenever this program starts, so today's piece combines my love of Groundhog Day with a quote from Waiting for Guffman, one of my favorite movies.

Details:
Stitches: straight, satin, and back stitches, French knot
Thread palette:

  • Groundhog (Phil, I guess): DMC 300 (6 strands), 310 (3 strands), Blanc (3 strands), SS 801 (3 strands)
  • Lettering: SS 102 (2 strands)
  • Border: DMC 310 (6 strands) - I decided to leave the fourth side as it was from yesterday's piece. I liked the idea of the snow being part of today's piece without actually being part of today's piece.
