Happy Galentine's Day!

Y'all, I drew a unicorn. I've never drawn a unicorn before. One of my favorite aspects of working on this daily embroidery project is trying to figure out how to translate an idea into an embroidery piece. My drawing skills are pretty basic, so figuring out how to draws groundhogs and toasters and guitars and unicorns has been a challenge. Sometimes, I have to use a pattern, like I did for the guitar piece earlier in the week. Other times, I can figure out the shapes to form what I want to draw. That's what I did for the groundhog and for the unicorn. I broke the each drawing into shapes and then combined the shapes. Today's unicorn is a few triangles (modified), a cone, some waves, and a few straight lines. Being able to look at illustrations and images is helpful; I appreciate the internet every day.

Today's piece is all about Galentine's Day. If you're not a Parks and Rec fan, you may not be familiar with the spectacular Leslie Knope and her holiday to celebrate the wonder and beauty of female friendships. Galentine's Day debuted in season two of the show, giving us love, waffles, and amazing ways to compliment our lady friends. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • You beautiful, rule-breaking moth
  • You poetic, noble land mermaid
  • You are a rainbow infused space unicorn
I love it when fictional things become real things, especially when those things are pure and lovely like Galentine's Day.

While I'm more naturally an introvert, I love my friends and I miss seeing them and being around them and generally basking in their awesomeness, so today's piece is for all of them. You're all rainbow infused space unicorns and I love you! Happy Galentine's Day!!

The top sketch is the final one, minus the stars. I decided not to add them. The bottom sketch was my original idea, including a very scary looking unicorn. I didn't have the shapes right in the first sketch.
