Doodles

There's a ton of research into how doodling can help a person with focus and retention. It can also be a stress reliever and improve concentration. Since starting this project, I find myself drawing and doodling more during meetings or when I'm watching tv. It has helped my focus, and I realized it keeps me more actively engaged as a listener, so I'm less prone to jump in and talk over people in meetings. I do that, and it's something I'm always working on doing less of.

I drew this piece while watching a rerun of CSI last night. I wasn't drawing it to be today's piece necessarily, but I liked the end result so I went with it. It's also fun from the back, and has given me an idea for when I do a piece "from the back" (I'm going to stitch with what would normally be the back as the front). The back of embroidery is a seriously under-appreciated place.

Stitches: back and straight stitches
Thread palette: DMC 4515 (6 strands) - I love DMC color variations threads. I realized today that I do a lot of my abstract and stitch study pieces with this set of threads. They're ombre threads, so there are multiple colors on each strand and they blend nicely together. I love the way the transition looks in the stitches.
