A few years back, I had a vision. Not in a spiritual way, but in a creative way. My friend, Anita, was cleaning out stuff from high school and found a box of old tapes. We started talking about ways to recycle the tape parts, and I decided to try to use cassette tape ribbon as thread. It worked surprisingly well. I've used it on a few pieces, and it creates a random glitter effect when the plastic starts to wear down. Anyway, I haven't used it in a while, so I decided I'd incorporate it into today's piece (the stars).
Today would have been David Bowie's 73rd birthday. The world has been a much sadder place since his death. I've made the Aladdin Sane lightning bolt a few times, including one made of puffy paint and glitter. I decided to revisit it again today. I was going to fill in the bolt completely, but hated it when I started doing that, so I kept it as a bold outline instead. I like to honor my heroes, and I hope he likes this.
Details:
Stitches: Back stitch, twinkle stitch
Thread Palette: DMC C900, C995, 317, cassette tape ribbon. If you decide to try cassette tape ribbon, I would recommend using a needle with a larger eye. It's easier to thread and makes it easier to control once you start embroidering.
