This is not intended to be a political blog, but since I'm making an embroidery piece very day, there have been and will pieces that are political in nature. It's part of who I am and part of my art.
I love ceremonies like the Inauguration. Maybe it's because I grew up in a military family or maybe it's because I'm a big civics nerd, I love them. I was a volunteer at President Obama's first inauguration and watch them all even if my candidate doesn't win. Theses types of ceremonies are so moving. The traditions, the bands, the pageantry - it's awesome. Watching Kamala Harris become the first Black, South Asian woman to be Vice President was awesome. And watching President Joe Biden deliver a beautiful and sobering inaugural address made me very hopeful for the next four years.
In honor of today's events, I thought we'd pay tribute to the President's theme song (basically), Hail to the Chief. The song was composed as a stage adaptation of Sir Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lake. It was used during the 19th century to signal the President's arrival, but it wasn't until the 1950s that the song became the official song of the President.
